When a peaceful settlement on the edge of a distant moon finds itself threatened by a tyrannical ruling power, a stranger living among the villagers becomes their greatest hope for survival. A handful of rebel soldiers who oppose the overwhelming might of the Motherworld, along with the villagers, grow to become a threat to this power.

With Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire, Netflix reached a beloved and considerable audience. The film brought the impact it left on viewers to its peak with Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver. Blending science fiction with a simple village life, the project was initially planned as a Star Wars film, but after the project's cancellation, it evolved into a story of its own. This interesting fusion was greatly loved by audiences, and signals for a continuation of the series have been given.

The interest shown in the film enabled the continuation of the partnership between its producer, Zack Snyder, and Netflix, and allowed for the shooting of a new installment.

Just like the first film, the sequel faced criticism but also proved to still hold significant appeal on the streaming service. Although we will have to wait to see if Rebel Moon Part Three will find a place on the platform, producer Zack Snyder is already planning it.

Forbes stated the following about the company's future: "As long as the story continues, we will definitely be working on Part Three. We definitely know where we're going. To be honest, we've known it for a long time."

Furthermore, Snyder added to Radio Times that, depending on whether future stories are split into two films like the first two, there could be four or six films in total, meaning Rebel Moon 3 might just be a beginning.

"We definitely have the story ready, all the work is complete. We've written an evaluation for the film so we can see how to proceed," he said.

Potential Release Date for Rebel Moon 3: When Will Rebel Moon Part 3 Be on Netflix?

As mentioned above, since Rebel Moon 3 has not yet been approved by Netflix, as of April 2024 there is no official release date.

There were only four months between the first two Rebel Moon films, but if a third film is made, we'll have to wait longer. While Snyder is planning it, he isn't waiting to shoot the next film.

"We are waiting for all these films, including the director's cut, to be released. In the meantime, before deciding what to do with more Rebel Moon films, I'll probably make another small film," he told GamesRadar+.

Snyder has talked about many films over the last few years, so "another small film" could be anything.

In any case, it indicates that filming for Rebel Moon 3 won't start until at least 2025, or even a bit later.

So, if approved, we could see a new Rebel Moon film in 2026 at the earliest.

Rebel Moon 3 cast: Who could return in Rebel Moon Part 3?
Since Rebel Moon 3 hasn't been approved yet, we don't have an official cast announcement, but we can make an educated guess.

All surviving rebels from Rebel Moon 2 will return; that is, Sofia Boutella as Kora, Djimon Hounsou as Titus, Staz Nair as Tarak, Elise Duffy as Milius, and Cleopatra Coleman as Devra Bloodaxe.

Unfortunately, Michiel Huisman's Gunnar and Doona Bae's Nemesis died during the battle on Veldt, so they won't be back for the third film unless we see them in flashbacks.

We can also expect to hear Anthony Hopkins as Jimmy again; villagers from Veldt like Sam (Charlotte Maggi) and former Motherworld soldier Aris (Sky Yang) are also likely to return.

On the villain side, Fra Fee should return as Admiral Balisarius. Ed Skrein probably won't return as Atticus Noble, but Noble has already cheated death once in this series, so we can never completely rule him out.

Rebel Moon 3 Plot: How will the story progress compared to Rebel Moon 2?
Rebel Moon 2 ends with the revelation that Princess Issa is still alive and out there somewhere, so the rebels vow to continue tracking her down and fighting against the Motherworld.

It's unclear exactly how Princess Issa survived Kora's assassination attempt or whether she is still the one who could end all wars and bring peace to the Motherworld. But if it does happen, that will likely be the main focus of the third film.

"Balisarius has returned to the Motherworld, and Issa is hiding somewhere else. They have something called the Order of the 12, which are the 12 original Jimmies that protect the royal family, and all but one named Bartholomew have been destroyed," Snyder explained to The Hollywood Reporter.

"So [Issa and Bartholomew] are probably hiding somewhere in the universe. The story of the third film will be about tracking her down and figuring out how they can use the victory on Veldt to build a coalition of planets on the brink of rebellion, but now we've seen the example of a dreadnought being taken down."

"Maybe there's an opportunity now. This is a crack in the armor. That's really what it is."

The second film revealed more about the rebels' backstories, but beyond what Kora told the rebels about her time in the Motherworld, we still don't know much about the villains like Regent Balisarius.

This means we can expect more flashbacks in a potential third film. Fee told GamesRadar+: "I had to ask [Zack] about Balisarius's past. We see fragments of his story and a few flashbacks in the first two films."

"And I play an older version of myself, so there's clearly a youth story to be told..."

Snyder added to The Hollywood Reporter: "If you were to do the rest of the stories I've laid out, there would definitely be an increase in the Balisarius percentage. Exponentially, you would start getting more and more Balisarius until only Balisarius and probably Kora remain."

Rebel Moon 3 Trailer: Is There No Footage from Rebel Moon Part 3 Yet?
